Weds Borphes Test Fit

posted by Prashant on November 12th, 2006

Alright so I finally got some time this afternoon to work on my own car. I did a rough testfit of my wheels on both the front and rear to see how far they will be sticking out from the fender and what kind of modifications will need to be done.

I have a set of front a-arms and rear camber arms on their way from Arizona that I will need to cut and reweld. The fronts will be tricky because they are aluminum and need to be tig welded by an expert.

Without further delay, here are some pictures of the front wheel test fit:

I wish I had some pics showing the face of the wheel but oh well, I was too excited! There needs to be some obvious camber work in the form of modifying the stock a-arms. Overall, the fitment isn’t too bad. I wish I could have compressed the stock suspension a little more to get a better idea but I suppose it will have to wait until my suspension work begins (hopefully in the following few weeks).

Next up, we have the rears:

These pictures give you an approximation of how far the wheels stick out in the rear. The first picture is from the top of the rear wheel and the second picture is from the bottom edge of the sideskirt:

If you wanted to know how I compressed the stock suspension, it’s quite simple. Floor jack and a piece of wood under the tire does the trick. Compressing the suspension will let you know what you need to do to your vehicle. I learned that in the rear I need to roll the fenders and run probably a total of 5-7 degrees of negative camber in the rear and about 3-5 degrees of negative camber up front.

Here is a picture from the underside of the car and the clearance. Notice that I have a buch of room for camber because the spring is seperate from the shock tower:

Here’s a photoshop my boy Pete from Vertex USA did of what it will approx look like when cambered, can you say gangster?

I have a feeling this is going to be a badass build. And this is coming from a guy who doesn’t like to float his own boat or brag, funny huh? Haha :)

Hegative offsets, I don’t want to disclose the numbers on here, but they are floating around on the net if you look hard enough ;)
